Post-Marathon Breakfast at Coffee Bay After the Animo Run

After finishing the TCS Clark Animo International Marathon, our group of runners did what many athletes do after crossing the finish line. We went looking for food.

Running long distances has a way of sharpening your appetite. After hours on the road, with legs heavy and energy nearly spent, the body begins asking for something simple and satisfying. A proper breakfast often feels like the real reward after the race.

That morning, we decided to head to Coffee Bay along Fil-Am Friendship Highway in Angeles, Pampanga. I had been there several times before, but for most of my running friends it was their first visit.

Coffee Bay is widely known for its coffee, waffles, and bingsu, the Korean shaved ice dessert that has become popular in many cafés. Yet beyond those sweet offerings, the café also serves hearty breakfast meals that are perfect after a physically demanding activity like a marathon.

My own familiarity with the place goes back to my first Animo run in Clark in 2025. After that race, I came to the same café with family to celebrate the birthday of a cousin who had also participated in the event. On that visit, I ordered pasta, which turned out to be surprisingly good. That experience stayed with me, and it made Coffee Bay an easy recommendation when our group began discussing where to eat after this year’s race.

This time, I ordered the chicken tenders with rice along with an iced Americano. The coffee choice was deliberate. Since I would be driving back home later, I wanted something strong enough to keep me alert during the long stretch of expressway driving. I have noticed that after a race, fatigue tends to creep in once the adrenaline fades, and a good cup of coffee helps counter that.

The chicken tenders meal came with scrambled eggs, a small serving of salad, and rice. It was simple but satisfying. After burning a large amount of energy during the run, the combination of protein and carbohydrates felt exactly right.

Interestingly, many of my friends followed my lead and ordered rice meals as well. Several chose the chicken tenders, while others went for the sausage breakfast plate. The sausage meal came with eggs, bacon, and salad. Both options were filling and well suited for runners looking to replenish their energy after hours of physical exertion.

Beyond the food, one of the things we appreciated most about Coffee Bay was the space. The café is quite spacious, which made it easy for our group to sit together comfortably. Establishments along Fil-Am Friendship Highway are often busy and cramped, but Coffee Bay offers enough room to accommodate groups without feeling crowded.

Parking was another pleasant surprise. Finding parking in this area can sometimes be a challenge, yet the café provides plenty of space for vehicles. For a group arriving after a race, still wearing medals and carrying race kits, that convenience matters more than one might expect.

Another advantage of visiting in the morning is the calm atmosphere. Coffee Bay is usually busy during the afternoon and evening, when people drop by for coffee, waffles, or dessert. But during our visit that morning, there were only a handful of customers. For a while, it felt as though we had the entire place to ourselves.

That quiet setting allowed us to relax and enjoy the moment. Conversations drifted from race strategies to funny stories about the course. Some talked about difficult stretches of the run, while others compared finishing times and shared plans for future races.

In many ways, these post-run breakfasts become part of the experience of participating in running events. The race itself may be the main event, but the time spent afterward with friends, sharing food and stories, often becomes just as memorable.

Looking back, Coffee Bay once again proved to be a good stop after the marathon. The food was satisfying, the café was comfortable, and the quiet morning atmosphere made it easy to unwind after the effort of the race.

For runners coming from events in Clark, it remains a reliable place to refuel, recover, and enjoy a well-earned breakfast before heading home.
